"As the mother of two teenagers, The Haunt at Dorney Park has become an annual event for us. The each invite a couple of friends - and I get to feel like a teenager again!
When they were small, we would bring them during the day and they would 'trick or treat' all around the park, make fun masks, and enjoy the child friendly "Boo Blast". At night, Dorney Park's Boo Blast is transformed into the "The Haunt" and is not for the faint of heart. My kids love to be scared and scream whether it's on the Dominator roller coaster as they drop 3 stories - or as they are being chased by the scary looking Bozo the Clown.
The rides are great and fog runs through the park making it just a little more creepy and spooky. There are fun houses during the day that become haunted houses at night with creatures jumping out at you at every turn. If you show just a bit of fear these creatures will continue to chase you. My kids are of the age now that they don't want to need me anymore; but I like that they come running to me for safety. It's fun ... it's scary, yet a bit heart warming too! We'll continue our annual trip, as long as they want!"

The Haunt at Dorney Park
A memorable moment is shared by one of our contributors at Dorney Park's fun, Halloween-themed "Haunt". Do you have any great theme parks or haunted houses in your area that you visit every October?

This sounds so much fun! I went to the Haunted Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios a few years ago and had a wonderful time - it was actually really scary! They put on quite a production there too.
A haunted hay ride deep through the woods culminating with a walk through a corn maze laden with spooks and goblins satisfied my eerie instincts for yet another year. OMG! It scared the......well, you know what out of me!
Sounds awesome. On Long Island here in New York,i used to take my kids to a haunted fire house the department set up.It was so scary to me but my kids breezed right thru.I refused t go back in despite their moans because i was too frightened.Looking back-what a wimp I was!!!
That sounds like good scary fun! My kids love spooky stuff. Hope I can get there before this weekend.
I love stuff like that. Being scared is good fun, sometimes.
cp said: although I don't like the concept of halloween I do enjoy the creativity it brings out in people and the fellowship of families and community. Kind of wierd that something scary is celebrated.
I was scared just watching that video! I used to love haunted houses when I was a teenager! It gives you a chance to be afraid, but also know that you're safe at the same time. And who doesn't love to let out a blood-curdling scream once in a while?
I must admit, I'm a bit of a scardy cat, even at 21 years old :P I miss fun houses. I remember a really cool one in Virginia Beach when I was much younger. I guess I never much liked being scared or knowing of the scary things people can think of- that in itself frightens me enough!
Laughing is my preferred mode of entertainment, let's hope more fun houses pop up!!!
We have a place near us called Bear Creek. It's a KOA facility and has many outdoor activities such as rodeos in the summer, tobogganing in the winter, etc. During Halloween, they transform it into "Scare" Creek and have a haunted hay ride and many other events planned. We used to love going there as kids and now it's fun to take our own children. We even remember where all the scarey character are who jump out at you during the hayride!!
It's great to know there are still some spooky haunted house out there that really scare you (in a fun way). That rush of getting scared when you are a kid brings back great memories!
My family loves Dorney Park and especially the haunted nights. We highly recommend this experience.
In our local park in Pittsburgh (Kennywood Park) they have what they call "Fright night." They do the fog as well and people jump out and scare you. They also use the indoor buildings and turn them into haunted houses. The one they do every year is painted in 3D. They give you glassses to wear, and the walls seem to jump out at you!
Sounds like a cool, scary place for a night out!
Even if you are not a ride person, Dorney Park is a perfect way to get in the spirit of fall with the decorations, food and crisp air it is great family fun!
Really looking forward to going, I just have to round up a couple more friends for this road trip.
